Is there a charge for the ride?
No, rides are free of charge.
May I bring my walker?
Yes, just let us know to make sure the driver will have room.
May I bring my wheelchair?
No, we cannot accommodate wheelchairs; however, the Cancer Agency has volunteers who will meet you at the door.
MayI bring a companion?
Yes, no problem, just let us know.
How do I qualify for rides?
You need to be receiving cancer-related assessments, treatments, surgeries, or procedures, and have no other way to get to your appointment. We will ask for your BC Cancer ID number when we register you for our service.
Do I need to call in advance to request a ride?
We prefer two business days notice, but we need at least one business days notice. Please ask the Cancer Agency for your appointment times for a week in advance.
What are your hours of operation?
We provide rides from 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
We answer the phone from 8:30am to 11:30am and from 1:00pm to 4:00pm Monday to Friday.
We do not provide rides or answer the phone on weekends or statutory holidays.
What if I need help getting in or out of the car?
The Cancer DriveLine Society does not allow our drivers to give physical assistance, but you may bring someone to help you.
Does the Cancer Agency advise you about my appointment times?
No, we only know what you tell us. Please let us know of any cancellations or changes to your appointment times.
How will I be notified if I have a ride?
You will receive a call the afternoon prior to your appointment to notify you of your driver, your pickup time, and to confirm your destination.
What if I’m not home to get the call about my ride?
If there is no answer, we will leave a message.
What if I don’t have voicemail?
You must call us before 4pm the afternoon prior to your appointment.
How can I make a donation to support your service?
You can give your donation to the driver. You can also send a cheque to our address made out to Cancer DriveLine Society or donate online using the Donate button on the Donate page.
